LondonBettaFish - About Us
My Mission
A little one to introduce myself. I am Raf. This is my girlfriend Olivia. She doesn't have anything to do with the fish, I just don't have any nice photos of myself (sorry). When I was little, my mum and dad would take me to the garden centre in Dubai, and I befriended the fish caretaker there.
He would let me into the backroom to see the newly arrived stock, and i would go through them and pick out my own.
I operate, basically, a no cull policy. Why? Because I have spent years line breeding to try and minimalize and eradicate lordosis and scoliosis, which domestic betta are so heavily riddled with.
For those who don't know, most domestic betta have spinal deformities to some extent. This is because of years and years of linebreeding without health consideration. It puts great pressure on internal organs. It's a terrible and unfair problem. Anything that's not up to par but is in my eyes, healthy enough to live a fulfilling life, is given away free to all you lovely people.
I could have chased aesthetics, but I don't, often to my own financial detriment. But I won't sacrifice the health of these fish for aesthetics.
Because I love them.
Thank you for all your continued support, and long may it continue.
Raf
